Required Documents for an Au Pair Visa Application

Please note that only German-speaking families are eligible to host Au Pairs in Germany. You are required to present a valid passport (with a minimum validity of 6 months). The following documents must be submitted to the Embassy during your appointment. Make sure that you provide complete applications to avoid any delays or issues.

1. Completed Application Form

  • National visa application form along with the declaration form (Section 54 (2) 8 in conjunction with Section 53 of the Residence Act)

2. Biometric Passport Photos

  • Three passport-sized photos (not older than 6 months)

3. Passport Copy

  • Copy of all pages of your passport (A4 size copy)

4. Host Family Passport Information

  • Copy of the data page and signature page of your host family’s passports

5. Au Pair Contract

  • Original signed Au-Pair contract by both you and the host family containing all relevant information (e.g., living arrangements, working hours, pocket money, etc.).
  • If you have a contract from a RAL-certified Au Pair agency, a copy, scan, or fax is usually sufficient.

6. Motivation Letter and CV

  • Motivation letter explaining your reasons for becoming an Au Pair in Germany
  • Updated CV

7. Educational and Employment Documents

  • Copies of relevant certificates such as O/Level, A/Level, proof of studies, or employment (if applicable)

8. Language Proficiency Certificate

  • A certificate proving your A1 German language proficiency issued by the Goethe Institut or an equivalent recognized institution

9. Acknowledgment of Information Sheet

  • Signed acknowledgment of receipt of the “Fact Sheet – Working as an Au Pair for a German Family”
