You are required to present a valid passport (minimum validity of 6 months). The following documents must be presented during your appointment at the Embassy. Please make sure to provide a complete application.

Required Documents for Application:

1. Application Forms

• Completed national visa application form
• Declaration form (Section 54 (2) 8 in conjunction with Section 53 of the Residence Act)

2. Biometric Photos

• Three biometric passport photos (not older than 6 months)

3. Passport Copies

• Copy of all pages of your passport (A4 size)
• Copy of all pages of your spouse's passport (A4 size)

4. Spouse's Invitation & Documentation

• Informal invitation letter from your spouse living in Germany, stating that they wish to live with you in Germany
• If spouse is a non-German, provide a copy of spouse’s residence permit (“Aufenthaltstitel”) for Germany
• If spouse is a recognized refugee or entitled to asylum/subsidiary protection:
  • Copy of the notice of recognition from BAMF
• Copy of spouse’s Meldebescheinigung (residence certificate) in Germany, not older than 6 months

5. Language Requirement

• A1 certificate issued by the Goethe Institut

6. Marriage Documentation

• Original Sinhalese/Tamil marriage certificate + scanned copy certified by the Ministry of Foreign Relations and translation, or German marriage certificate

7. Birth Certificate

• Original Sinhalese/Tamil birth certificate + copy + translation

8. Additional Documents (if applicable)

• Decree Absolute and Decree Nisi (if applicable), certified by the Ministry of Foreign Relations mentioning custody of the child, plus **translation
• Death certificate of deceased parent (if applicable), certified by the Ministry of Foreign Relations, with translation

9. Documents for EU Citizen Spouse (if applicable)

• If your spouse in Germany is an EU citizen (not German), provide the following:
  • Employment contract or university admission letter of spouse
  • Salary slips of spouse from the last 3 months
  • Tenancy agreement in Germany, indicating the size of the apartment
  • Note: An A1 certificate is not required in this case
