Required Documents for a Visa Application (Bundesfreiwilligendienst or Jugendfreiwilligendienst)

Foreign nationals interested in applying for this visa must already have a signed contract for either the “Bundesfreiwilligendienst” (Federal Volunteer Service) or a “Jugendfreiwilligendienst” (Youth Voluntary Service), which includes Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr (FSJ) or Freiwilliges Ökologisches Jahr (FÖJ). The following documents are required to be presented at the embassy during your appointment:

1. Completed Application Form

  • National visa application form along with the declaration form (Section 54 (2) 8 in conjunction with Section 53 of the Residence Act)

2. Biometric Passport Photos

  • Three passport-sized photos, not older than 6 months

3. Passport Copy

  • Copy of all pages of your passport (A4 size)

4. Motivation Letter and CV

  • A letter detailing your motivation for participating in the voluntary service (including information about the sector, region, and intended location of the service in Germany)
  • Updated CV

5. O/L & A/L Examination Certificates

  • Copies of your Ordinary Level (O/L) and Advanced Level (A/L) certificates (if applicable)

6. Additional Documents and Certificates

  • Proof of previous employments, vocational training, or other relevant certifications

7. Voluntary Service Contract

  • For Bundesfreiwilligendienst: Signed contract between you, the “Bundesamt für Familie und zivilgesellschaftliche Aufgaben (BAFzA)”, the host organization (“Einsatzstelle”), and, if applicable, the central office (“Zentralstelle”) or the responsible body (“Träger”).
  • For Jugendfreiwilligendienst (FSJ or FÖJ): Signed contract between you, the responsible body (“Träger”), and, if applicable, the host organization (“Einsatzstelle”).

8. Proof of Accommodation and Meals

  • If the contract does not specify the details regarding accommodation and meals, you must provide additional proof of means of subsistence to demonstrate how you will support yourself during your stay in Germany.

9. A1 Certificate of Language Proficiency

  • A language proficiency certificate at A1 level, issued by the Goethe Institute (or an equivalent institution recognized by the German authorities).

Note: Ensure that you only submit complete applications as incomplete applications may delay the process or result in refusal. Always check with the German Embassy for any specific or updated requirements.
